Greetings!
As this inaugural edition of Saluda Lifestyles
is launched, Saluda is celebrating its 125th
birthday. Saluda citizens are proud of the town’s
heritage and are planning a special birthday party
August 5 from 3 to 5 at McCreery Park.

To mark Saluda’s centennial in 1981, two Saluda
residents, Charlene Pace and Anne Osborne,
published “Saluda, NC One Hundred Years 1881-
1981.” This book is chock full of historical
pictures of the people and places of Saluda. Due
to the demand for copies, it was reprinted in 1996
with Volumes I and II combined. You can get a copy
for $25 at M.A. Pace General Store.
Historian Charlene Pace invites everyone to
attend her presentation, "Memories of
Saluda," to be held, Saturday, June 24, at
4:00pm, at the Saluda Senior Center.

Winners of Saluda's Third Art Festival
|
|
The Saluda Business Association extends
appreciation to all the artists and craftspeople
who participated in the third annual Saluda Arts
Festival Saturday, May 20.
Saluda Mayor, Lee Clippard presented the
winners with a check for $200 The “Best
Booth” went to "M" Rathsack (pictured
above) of Hendersonville, NC for her creative use
of color and design principles in the display of
her art work.
The "Best of Show” went to Bill
Gramley of Clemmons, NC for his pastel artwork
entitiled "Sunflowers."
Judges' Honorable Mention went to Janie
Trouche, Mt. Pleasant, SC for her oil painting
entitled "Still Life." Judges' Creative Picks went
to Susan Waters, Caroleen, NC for her creative
glass designs and Melissa Nelson, Horse Shoe, NC
for her art pottery.

is to preserve and promote our natural assets. One
of our major economic assets is our art community
and we are pleased that our annual arts festival

Saluda Fine Arts is sponsoring "Summer Sunday
Art" every Sunday afternoon beginning June 25 to
September 24. Featuring the gallery artists, free
events will include exhibits of featured artist's
work, demonstrations, talks, discussions and mini-
workshops.

Saluda Salutes Greg Granger
|
|
In memory of city employee, Greg Granger, who
died last August, a red bud tree was planted near
the Veteran's Memorial Monument. During the
Memorial Day Service on May 29, 2006, Mayor Lee
Clippard dedicated the tree and a marker to honor
Greg's service to the city. Pictured here is
Greg's wife Milly Granger with long-time friends
who donated the funds for the tree and marker.

On the move...The mumbling around town
is that the City Hall building is up for sale.
Mayor Lee Clippard confirms that the building is
being appraised so that they can determine a sales
price. A league of their own...a group of
people meet at the Presbyterian Church on
Wednesday mornings at 8:30 to play golf. If you
want to join them, just show up.

Frank & Amy's Front Porch Coffee Bar
is now serving Gelato....no it's not a new
flavor of coffee. "Gelato" is an Italian word for
ice cream. Created in northern Italy, it is known
by its smooth texture, rich and exquisite taste,
and naturally low in fat. Frank and Amy were also
featured in the June issue of "Our State" magazine

Tosh's WhistleStop Cafe is starting an
outdoor concert series on Friday's at 7:00pm. On

Joni and Rich Rauschenbach are
rennovating turn-of- the-century Saluda
Inn. Reopening in July, Saluda Inn will
accommodate groups for reunions, weddings,
retreats, meetings and other activities.
To accommodate the increase in customers,
Purple Onion has upgraded their outdoor
courtyard and added a new bar area inside which
can seat up to 10-12 people. Be sure to check
their music venue on Thursday and Saturday nights

to the growing retirement community in Saluda.

Town News and Notes
The proposed 2006-2007 budget for the City of
Saluda has been presented to the Board of
Commissioners and is available for public
inspection in the City Hall from 8:30am to 4:30pm
weekdays.
There will be a public hearing on Monday, June
12, 2006 at 6:00pm at the Saluda Public Library
for the purpose of discussing the proposed budget.
Citizens are invited to make written or oral
comments.
There is a City Council Meeting to follow at
7:00pm after the Public Hearing to consider
adopting the proposed 2006-2007 budget and
consider adopting the 2005-2006 budget
reconciliation and amendments.
